a grand day
by the way, given your well documented fondness for aphorisms, thought you might like this. http://www.thedailyaphorism.com/
Amen to that.
we missed you? I didn’t.
Please, please, let’s not go there.
Let’s not try to pass Americans for heroes.
So they didn’t pick the wrong guy, cool. They did pick the wrong one twice in a row!
They couldn’t care less about the rest of the world, they only did it because this time the shit landed in their front yards (of those fortunate enough not to have theirs seized by the banks).
Let’s remember they are the ones who got us into this problem to begin with.
What’s next? Praising bankers for reducing their bonuses? from£3 mill to £1 mill? Ridiculous. (And don’t even get me started on bankers, they should be regarded as the lowest form of life in this planet).
Obama is a good start. Only a good start.
It was over as soon as it begun! I’ve become so accustomed to long election nights that this was a rather easy affair.
J, Not all Americans picked the wrong guy twice in a row – I definitely didn’t, and my state didn’t. In fact, a majority of Americans picked against Bush the first time around.
There are a lot of us who do pay attention to the rest of the world, and who were upset about how our country was acting. We want to go in the right direction – desperately. We want to lead on education, on reducing our environmental impact, on inspiring innovation and being a country people look up to.
Let’s remember that there are a lot of people in the US, and most of us were led astray by the financial services industry as well. It’s just that loud, obnoxious idiots make a much more interesting stereotype than the good, caring people who want to make the world a better place.
I for one am excited that this is the first time in 8 years that I’ve been overseas… and haven’t felt I had to apologize for my country’s voting decisions. I’m thrilled that just when I was starting to get really discouraged about America, we go do something so open-minded and positive that it gives people hope again.
Trust me, as Americans, we miss being liked and worthy of respect as well. We’re really hoping to earn it again from the rest of the world.

Ah, the arrogance. Anyway, in case you hadn’t heard, a few (million) nutty conspiracy theorists have suggested there’s just the slightest chance that “we” didn’t have a whole lot of say in the past couple of elections.
And yippee for change and all, but shouldn’t we maybe hold the applause and wait to see what this fellow actually DOES before crowning him the Magical Negro* we’ve all been praying for?
Just a thought.
